How to reduce noise with the right glazing
Noise is the most commonly mis-sold problem in glazing. These are the specifications that make a measurable difference.
Asymmetric glass thicknesses
Two panes of identical thickness resonate together. Pairing, say, 6mm with 4mm disrupts that and improves acoustic performance without any extra complexity.
Acoustic laminate
A laminated pane with an acoustic interlayer is the single most effective upgrade. It also improves security, which is a useful side effect.
Cavity width and sealing
Wider cavities help acoustically, though there is a trade-off with thermal performance. Beyond the glass, the installation seal matters enormously — a poorly sealed perimeter undoes an expensive unit.
