What it is, in plain English
Aluminium is far stronger than PVC-U, which means the frame can be much slimmer while still carrying large panes of glass. On a contemporary extension it is usually the defining detail.
Modern systems are polyamide thermally broken, so the old reputation for cold frames and condensation no longer applies to a well-specified product.

- Materials
- Extruded aluminium with a polyamide thermal break. Frame depth and the quality of the thermal break drive performance.
- Energy efficiency
- A well-specified thermally broken system meets and often beats Building Regulations. Compare whole-window U-values, not just the glass.
- Security
- Inherently rigid, with multi-point locking and PAS 24 options as standard on most systems.
- Colours & finishes
- Powder coated to any RAL shade, in matt, satin, textured or metallic finishes. Dual colour inside and out is straightforward.
- Hardware
- Slim contemporary handles, concealed hinges and integrated restrictors.
- Glass
- Large panes, structurally bonded units, solar-control coatings and acoustic laminates are all common specifications.
- Maintenance
- Wash the powder coating a couple of times a year. Finishes typically carry long guarantees.
- Typical applications
- Extensions, new builds, warehouse conversions, and full-house replacements where a modern look is wanted.
