Double vs triple glazing: is triple worth it?
Triple glazing is genuinely better. Whether it is better value than upgrading other parts of the specification is a different question.
What you actually gain
A good double-glazed unit with a warm-edge spacer and argon fill typically achieves a centre-pane U-value around 1.1–1.2 W/m²K. A triple unit can reach 0.6–0.8.
In a well-insulated home with lots of glazing, that difference is felt. In a solid-wall Victorian terrace losing heat through the walls and roof, it will be swamped by everything else.
The things people underestimate
Triple units are around 50% heavier, so frames, hinges and hardware must be specified to suit. On large sashes this matters.
Triple glazing also reduces solar gain, which is welcome in summer and less welcome on a north-facing room in February.
Noise is a separate problem
If your goal is quiet, triple glazing is not automatically the answer. Asymmetric double glazing with an acoustic laminate pane and a wider cavity usually outperforms standard triple glazing against traffic noise.

- No. Windows are one part of a building's heat loss. Expect a worthwhile improvement in comfort and a modest improvement in running costs.
